GRAHAMSTOWN HUMAN CHAIN EVENT – 21 FEBRUARY 2014

This letter serves as an invitation for you/ your organisation/ institution/ school/ business/ group to join us in this initiative.

Nelson Mandela’s passing on 5 December 2013 and the ten days of mourning leading to his funeral saw the nation and the world, in various ways, commemorate and celebrate the life of this remarkable man. The Grahamstown Human Chain is our way of remembering Madiba and the values he lived for, as well as turning our focus towards his legacy.

The event was initially planned to take place two days before his funeral but, given the time of year of his passing, many people had already left Grahamstown for the holidays; so it was agreed to have the event on 21 February 2014 and involve everyone – the sum total of what makes Grahamstown.

By joining hands from Ncame to Somerset Streets we will be bridging old divides and making a powerful statement, visibly showing our connectedness as a community – a community committed to upholding the vision and values of Madiba and our constitution – of creating a united, non-racist, democratic South Africa, free from poverty and inequality. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect upon 20 years of democracy.

On Monday, 3 February 2014 at 17:00 we will be having a Stakeholder Briefing Session in the City Hall. You or your representative/s are invited to attend this meeting.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Please join us.

Please RSVP at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely,
Roger Domingo
